Local Photographer Attends International Photographic Convention with his winning images. David Koster owner of Portraits In The Sand in Rehoboth Beach recently attended Imaging USA, one of the largest conventions designed exclusively for photography and imaging professionals. Over 7,500 photographers attended this event in January in Phoenix, Arizona. “In today's aggressive business market, I feel that I need every advantage to keep my business as a leader in the photographic profession. The education and networking that occurs at Imaging USA helps me better serve my clients with the best products and service.” commented David Koster. With over 90 combined programs designed to improve artistic and business success, Imaging USA helped attendees increase their knowledge and skills in all photography specialties. These programs focused on topics from photographic techniques to the latest advancements in digital imaging, along with critical business education. Imaging USA also featured the Imaging Expo, a tradeshow with over 600 booths, highlighting the latest in photographic equipment, supplies, and services from the industry’s top vendors. In addition, PPA’s International Print Exhibition displayed over 2,500 award-winning photographs. If you’re a professional photographer, you know competition only makes you better. “Competing sparks a drive to increase the quality of my photography as a whole.” David says. More than one thousand top photographers from around the world entered Professional Photographers of America’s (PPA’s) 117th International Print Competition to test their artistry…and to earn their place in PPA’s prestigious Loan Collection. A panel of nearly 40 eminent Jurors from across the United States selected the images that constitute the 2008 General and Loan Collections from approximately 5,000 submitted entries. Only 684 of those images were selected for the esteemed Loan Collection. One of these images was taken by David Koster. The Loan Collection images will be published in the much-anticipated Loan Collection book by Marathon Press. This International Traveling Loan Collection also travels to different exhibits including Asia as the next stop for Koster’s winning image. These images constituted the world’s largest annual exhibit of professional photography gathered simultaneously under one roof. Photographers say that competition hones their skills, pushing them to perfection…and the International Print Competition is the ultimate test. Imaging USA has established itself as the first major photographic event of the year. It began in 1884 as the annual convention and tradeshow for Professional Photographers of America and is the longest running national photographic convention, expo and image exhibition in the United States. These merits can be applied toward degrees granted by the association. The Photographic Exhibitions Committee (PEC) of PPA uses the 12 elements below as the “gold standard” to define a merit image. Local Business Announces More Than a Name Change Rehoboth Beach, DE, April 29, 2006-- Photos In The Sand, a local professional photography business recently announced a name change to Portraits In The Sand. David Koster, certified professional photographer and owner of Portraits In The Sand, said this name change reflects his success in providing specialized location portraits, and the introduction of a newly expanded line of products and services for families and children. For decades professional portraits were primarily created in studios, but for years, Portraits In The Sand has specialized in photographing local and vacationing families on the beaches of Delaware. “Casual portraits of families and children created in personal and unique locations reflect family pride, and are increasingly used as objects of home decor that, like paintings created by the old master portrait painters, become family heirlooms”, explained Koster. Digital imaging has affected nearly every business, including photography. As recently as a decade ago, the only way people could display and exchange photographs were on traditional photographic paper, and it often took days or weeks before proofs and finished orders were available. Now, Portraits In The Sand provides next-day in-studio viewing and ordering, and rather than mailing film, Koster now uploads images to his professional lab in minutes, and delivers finished orders in the time it used to take to deliver proofs. In addition to offering traditional portrait sizes from wallets to wall portraits, Portraits In The Sand now offers amazing new digital products and services that include bound books and albums, slide shows set to music, web site photos, files that his clients can email to friends and relatives, and special effects and enhancements that a few years ago were either too expensive, or limited to the imagination. Local businesses also benefit from Portrait In The Sand expanded line of products. Offering digital products provides businesses new methods for marketing their products and services. Using digital files, a business can now feature products on web site, in digital newsletters, sales presentations, and emails. The benefits of speed, cost savings, and accessibility to new information are enjoyed by the business, and its customers. “The future promises exciting possibilities and I’m confident that Portraits In The Sand will continue to evolve and maintain a leadership role in providing appealing and useful photographic products with superior service”, said Koster. David Koster CPP, of Rehoboth Beach began his professional photography career in 1990. Koster was recently presented the Associate Fellowship degree (A. Fel) from the Delaware Professional Photographers for his merited service to the organization.
